History of Toyriver's Kennel

Toyriver's Kennel, founded in 1986 by Gun Hänninen, has a rich history rooted in the heart of Finnish countryside. The kennel's name originates from a narrow river flowing through Holsveri, a small village in Hamina, Finland.

The kennel embarked on its breeding journey with american type English Springer Spaniels. The founding bitch, Of Finnline Fondness, laid the foundation for the kennel's English Springer Spaniel line. Between 1986 and 1997, Toyriver's Kennel successfully bred a total of 96 English Springer Spaniels.

In 1991, a Wire Fox Terrier joined the kennel, marking the beginning of Sami Hänninen's involvement with the breed. Sami officially became a breeder at Toyriver's Kennel in 1992. The kennel's first litter of Wire Fox Terriers was born in 1993, with Apfrodite as the founding bitch. From 1991 to 2003, Toyriver's Kennel bred 57 Wire Fox Terriers.

Sadly, the kennel's founder, Gun Hänninen, passed away in 2023. However, Toyriver's Kennel continues to be registered with the Finnish Kennel Club and is now solely owned by Sami Hänninen. Today, the kennel primarily focuses on owning, exhibiting, and show grooming Fox Terriers.
